Are Couples With Children More Likely to Divorce?

During a divorce, it's always important to make sure that your kids don't take the blame. However, a recent article in HuffPost Divorce asked the following question: can your kids contribute to marriage problems? Here are a few ways for parents to maintain healthy relationships with their kids while maintaining their marriage relationships as well:
Learn to say "no." You don't have to do everything. In fact, over-scheduling is one of the most effective ways to avoid spending quality time with your spouse and kids. Instead, avoid unnecessary commitments and devote your time to your marriage instead. Couples who say "yes" to every activity risk compromising their marriage for other, less important commitments.
Call each other by name. Instead of calling your spouse "mom" or "dad" in front of your kids, call him/her by name. This is a simple way to remind each other about your marriage aside from your children. If you and your spouse only think of each other as your kids' parents, you might lose sight of your love for each other. Parents like this may suffer marital problems after their children are grown and leave home.
Remember your wedding vows. Wedding vows are a reflection of your dedication to each other. Remember the vow "forsake all others" and keep each other first. This means prioritizing your marriage before your children. Couples who put their kids above their marriage are more likely to suffer marital difficulty and eventually divorce.
Actively plan quality time. Couples who actively work to spend time with each other may be able to avoid marital conflict. Children are time consuming. That's why parents have to make sure that they spend adequate time with each other to maintain their relationship as a couple.
